NELSON MANDELA DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL

Nelson Mandela, anti-apartheid leader and former South African president, has been discharged from hospital and has returned home after being treated for a recurring lung infection, according to government sources.

"Madiba's condition remains critical
and is at times unstable," the South
African president's office said on
Sunday, referring to the 95-year-old
Mandela by his clan name.

"His team of doctors are convinced
that he will receive the same level of intensive care at his Houghton [in Johannesburg] home that he received in Pretoria," the statement said.
This comes after a weekend statement
by a family member that he had been discharged was denied by Mac Maharaj, the presidential
spokesperson.
Mandela had been receiving medical treatment in a Pretoria hospital for almost three months since June 8.
Al Jazeera's Tania Page, reporting
from Johannesburg, said there are
hopes that there will be some sort of recovery.
"This is a very gravely ill man, but [the presidency] has gone to great pains to explain that he will be receiving full medical support at his home," she said.
She said the president's office had
avoided getting into details out of
respect for Mandela and his family.

NTA Refuses Reporting Atiku, Seven Governors Walk-Out Of PDP Convention

We can authoritatively report that
the Nigerian Television Authority
(NTA), Nigeria's public television,
yesterday evening on its prime 9 p.m. news avoided reporting Saturday's historic crisis at the ongoing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Special Convention in Abuja, thereby once again taking sides with President Goodluck Jonathan and the ruling party and betraying the facts.
At the convention, the
ruling party openly and
embarrassingly split in
two, with several governors and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar walking away and immediately formalizing their own faction. There were also fisticuffs among delegates from Anambra State, but the NTA, preferring politics to professionalism, did not report that, either.
As monitored by mass media, NTA
reported President Jonathan's address and of Vice President Namadi Sambo. It also carried two slide stories of Senate President David Mark and that of Benue State governor, Mr. Gabriel Suswan, after which the station continued with its live broadcast of the votes cast in Eagles Square, venue of the convention.
NTA is under the supervision of Mr.
Labaran Maku, Nigeria's Minister of
Information, as well as a board appointed by the president, which protect the PDP's government interests in the company. The editorial staff, according to a source, has been mandated to report only pro-Jonathan stories and turn down any material offensive to him.

Carson Huey-You , an 11-year-old is
among the new class of undergrads at Texas Christian University – adjusting to college life, finding the right buildings, settling in for those easy core classes.
Around the time when most kids are playing with jacks and baseball cards, young Huey-You will be taking university- level courses among teenagers and young adults. And it won't just be any class load.
The boy, who scored a 1770 on his SAT, speaks Mandarin Chinese and plays the piano, will be studying nothing less than quantum physics.
His mom, Claretta, says her son had intense focus as an infant. By the age of one, he could read. By five, he was doing pre-algebra. Calculus, he says, relaxes him.
If he graduates as his parents expect, in four to five years, Carson will have a college diploma before or at the same time he gets his driver’s license.

Clark should retire from politics, not me — Obasanjo

Culledfrom Punch

Former President Olusegun Obsanjo on Saturday replied Ijaw leader, Edwin.Clark’s comment on him, saying his utterances showed it was time for him (Clark) to retire from politics.

Obasanjo’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Victor
Durodola, who responded to comments credited to Clark in a newspaper (not PUNCH) accusing Obasanjo of sowing seeds of discord in the Peoples Democratic Party, and urging him to retire, said it was Clark who needed to retire.
Among other things, Clark had said the former President caused the current crisis.in PDP by instigating Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State to contest the Presidency in 2015.
Durodola told SUNDAY PUNCH that all of Clark’s allegations were baseless since he failed to provide evidence to substantiate
his claims.

He said, “Usually, Baba will not dignify such a comment with a response. If he says somebody is sponsoring Governor Rotimi Amaechi, what evidence has he provided? If you have a son and he is not.in good terms with your friend, will you kill your son so that your friend will know that you are his friend? That is not the way to live life. The best an elder can do is to try and settle quarrels, if there are any. Remember he (Obasanjo) is an elder statesman, a former President.

“Edwin Clark, you can see from all his utterances that he is actually the one who should go and sit down. He should not be involved in politics, he should be a leader.
But if he is involved in politics, that is okay for him. The fact is that there is nothing he is saying now that he has not said before. Baba would not join issues with someone like Edwin Clark; he wouldn’t. He ought to have provided evidence, instead of making general pronouncements.”
Durodola added that Obasanjo believed that democracy meant Amaechi, Lamido or any Nigerian, had the right to contest any office they choose.
He said, “Are Lamido and Amaechi not Nigerians? Are they not eligible? Is Clark himself not eligible? What is wrong with somebody contesting? There is
democracy. There should be no seal.
Whoever wants to contest should be free to contest. Let the primary election determine who should be the candidate of the party. Everybody should be free to contest, including Clark.
He is an elder statesman, he should know that this idea of because somebody is interested in contesting, then he becomes an enemy, is not the way of civilisation. Democracy means freedom for everybody.”
He insisted that contrary to popular
opinion, Obasanjo and President Goodluck Jonathan were in good terms.
“Just to clarify things, Obasanjo is not quarreling with Jonathan. They talk; they interact; they meet; they travel together.
The fact is that he (Obasanjo) likes to express himself, and he believes in democracy,” he said.

Sean Kingston settles his $5 Million alleged gang rape lawsuit

The 23-year-old singer has reportedly tied up loose ends with, Carissa Capeloto, who is the 22-year-old girl that accused him and his former bodyguard of gang rape after a 2010 concert, a source told TMZ.
Kingston allegedly did not settle because he is admitting he is guilty of the act.
According to the TMZ insider, he has reached an agreement because his upcoming tour and new album release will prevent him from focusing on going to trial.
Kingston allegedly paid the girl only a fraction of her asking price in the lawsuit, which originally was $ 5 million .

The source stressed to the gossip site that Kingston believes he would have won the case if went to trial the same way he was let off for the criminal charge of the same incident three years ago.
“Her story wasn’t consistent,” another source said of Capeleto, who was intoxicated during the encounter.
“She told various stories throughout her interviews with police. Her friend’s story wasn’t consistent with hers. The medical report had no indications of force.”
Kingston did acknowledge having sexual relations with the girl but said it was consensual.
The lawsuit is anticipated to be dismissed quickly.
