Jay Z Changes his Name, Removes Hyphen From Name

That hyphen in Jay Z's name, say no more as the Brooklyn rapper-formerly known as Jay-Z has changed his name to Jay Z. The news flash came from Billboard editor Joe Levy who got the word from Hov's Roc Nation imprint.

Breaking: Jay Z has dropped the hyphen frome his name, according to his label. I am not kidding. (Wish I was.) Copy editors: take note.
— Joe Levy (@RealJoeLevy) July 18, 2013

Backtracking on Hov's last couple of projects, the change has actually been subtly in place since 2011 with Watch The Throne when his name was credited as "Jay Z." More recently, it was executed in similar fashion with How's Magna Carta...Holy Grail all throughout the promotion. But this all leads to one question, did it really make a difference?

Sanusi Wants The Naira Redesigned

The Governor of the Central Bank of
Nigeria (CBN) Lamido Sanusi yesterday pleaded that the only way to end thebmenace of fake Naira currencies circulating the country is to have the Naira
redesigned.

In an interactive session with
the House of Representatives
committee on Banking and
Currency, Sanusi answered to the enquiry on why fake notes have been said to be issued by the automated teller machines (Atm) across the
nation.

Saying that it was supposed to be a routine exercise done every seven or so yeears, he also regretted thet the issue of the planned N5000 notes has not been fruitfull due to the widespread rejection of the last attempt.

"Unfortunately, redesign suffered because of all the noise around N5,000, and therefore, it's been delayed because that is what would have made it impossible for counterfeiters to counterfeit. They would have to take another five, six, seven years before they learn how to counterfeit. By which point, the central bank should be redesigning the notes again.

"I suppose that at some point, the country would have to visit this issue of redesigning the notes. But at the moment, based on popular demand, we have had to step down the redesign," Sanusi said.

Going further, Sanusi informed the committee while responding to why monetary policy rates are high in the country that there isn't much the CBN can do since other factors are responsible for the rates being above single digit.

Why We Won’t Call Off Strike- ASUU Tells FG

Striking university teachers on Wednesday insisted that they would not return to the classrooms until the Federal Government honoured fully the 2009 agreement and Memorandum of Understanding signed by
the two parties.

This came as there were conflicting reports from the University of Jos over the institution post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation
Examination.

While the striking teachers insisted on Wednesday that the exercise would not hold, the school authorities said the screening was
in progress.

University teachers under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Universities embarked on a nationwide industrial action on July 1, 2013.

However, the Ibadan Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Dr. Adesola Nassir, during a briefing at the University of Lagos, on Wednesday insisted that the strike would not end until the Federal Government respected the signed pact.

The zone has members drawn from UNILAG, University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State; Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State; Lagos State University, Ojo; Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagu, Ogun State and the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Nassir explained that though the union met with the government's representatives,
including the members of the Senate Committee on Education last Monday, the meeting ended in a deadlock.

He said, "This is because the Federal Government is still not being sincere to address the issues at stake.

"The strike will remain for as long as it takes the Federal Government to be faithful to the implementation of the 2009 agreement and its renegotiation as contained in the Memorandum of Understanding reached by both parties in January last year."

He explained that the FG's response to the action since it started had shown that it was not ready to address the challenges facing the
nation's university system.

Meanwhile, the ASUU UNIJOS chairman, Dr. David Jangkam, has urged parents not to send their children to the school for the post-UTME.

He said, "No parent should send their children to UNIJOS because the ongoing strike is total, comprehensive and indefinite and so no.academic activities in whatever form is supposed to take place."

However, the university said the screening was in progress.

Speaking with journalists on Wednesday, its Registrar, Mr. Jilli Dandam, called on the public and participating candidates to.disregard any contrary announcement from
the striking teachers.

Queen Elizabeth II Gives Approval To Gay Marriages In Britain

Britain has legalized gay marriage after Queen Elizabeth gave her royal approval.

House of Commons Speaker John Bercow told lawmakers that the royal assent had been given Wednesday – the day after the bill to legalize same-sex marriage in England and Wales cleared Parliament.

The queen’s approval was a formality. It clears the way for the first gay marriages next summer. The bill enables gay couples to get married in both civil and religious ceremonies in England and Wales. It also will allow couples who had previously entered into a civil partnership to convert their relationship to a marriage.

Why Funke Akindele Walked Out Of Troubled Marriage

The marriage which suffered many hiccups shortly before it became known to the public, continually overwhelmed The Return of Jenifa star due to shocking and disturbing tales of extra-marital relationships that have led to not less than10 love children traced to Kehinde.

The spate at which the estranged hubby’s sexcapades played out nearly turned the hitherto adored actress to an object of ridicule and the topic of rile discussion among professional colleagues and fans. It worsens with caustic and cynical comments online.

According to close family sources, the kitchen became too hot shortly after the marriage, as issues that did not surface prior to the wedding kept rearing their ugly heads and left unresolved. Kehinde, showed no remorse though after much pressure and damning reports in E24-7 Magazine, he admitted one of his mistresses, Modinat, and then three months pregnant for him was actually carrying
his baby.

Earlier, the media was awash with the shocking revelation that his second wife at home, Fadeke, was equally pregnant. Fadeke was forced to travel out during the wedding to Dubai, an indication that she did not support
the union.

In a typical Yoruba setting, the senior wife should receive the new bride into the family. Checks revealed Fadeke too was not formally received by the evicted first wife, Toun. All these and more drew public odium to the hitherto much loved The Return of Jenifa star, especially women who believed she’s a home wrecker.

Though her world nearly crashed, Funke gathered the bits and pieces of her life, shunned critics, naysayers and had the wedding with all the trappings of a celebrity.

Like a blind lover, she was rushed into the marriage. Even when it was obvious there was
a crack in the marriage, she debunked all the reports: “ ‘My husband has never been married. I am the woman he got married to. I was married properly. A lot of negative comments came from sadists who want to run their mouths. So because I am a Youth Ambassador or a Celebrity, I can’t have my life? “‘It is my life. If I do things because people want me to, I will end up unhappy. I do what I do because I want to be happy.

I would still continue to teach morals and campaign against HIV/AIDS and enlighten the youths. It doesn’t make me bad; that is even if it is, because I can tell you authoritatively that my
husband is not married to anyone else. “‘Yes, he has beautiful children, who are not mine now and we have a cordial relationship, which
dates back to even before we got married. “‘So what if he has kids? Is that a disease? That is where my heart is! I had many non-biological children even before I got married. I take.them as my own children, pay their bills and help them.

I have always loved children. So now that God has given me these ones, what should I do? “Will people be happier if I had married someone who didn’t have children, seem so perfect, put on my make-up and fake smile on the red carpet and start weeping when I get home? And about my in-laws, they are very wonderful and supportive and my parents and siblings as well.. Funke Akindele , observers argued , must really be in love and with that claim the inquisitive media kept off her trail but it was only a matter of time. The secret cannot be kept away forever. As expected, Funke blinked first but
she could not say it out.

She knew it was over.and ready to face it, not by defending herself but putting her struggles and triumphs behind her to face her career. They kept each other at measured distance and it worsened with the fact that elderly family members, influential personalities cannot intervene. Both are.fiercely independent adults.

Kehinde had been to Funke’s dad once and hardly call her mum. Time, they believed will heal all the wounds.

Her mum, just like her siblings have become such an intricate part of keeping her strong. The mother has since moved to her Ikeja home to give her strength.

More evident that there was a crack in the marriage is each time Funke stepped out on the red carpet, Kehinde never showed.

He was never with her at any public function. She however found company in her immediate elder sister, Ayo Ola Mohammed and shut her doors at some professional colleagues to avoid
gossips.

“While the trouble was brewing silently sources claimed that Funke gave several breaks and chances. She would call him, begged him even when she was right but Kehinde just wanted to have his own way not minding the consequences or effect of his actions on her, her career and public perception.

He cared less about her status, in fact, all those negative media never got to him. He’s fiercely independent. Surprisingly, he returned to Modinat Dada, who gave him a baby boy last October while he married Funke in May.

It.was a slap on Funke’s face. In the heat of this, she lost her pregnancy though reliable sources hinted she was glad it happened as it prepared her for the imminent exit. The fact that both of them lived separately also worsened the situation. While Funke can be traced to her Ikeja home, her hubby is a ‘bed sharer’.

He shuttles between three known women- Funke, Fadekemi, Modinat, and strangely too, other harem. Baffling too is the issue of complex and security. Kehinde, according to our source.could not believe that Funke’s back-to- back endorsement comes so easy.

He thinks those corporate guys who give those endorsements cannot really take their eyes off her. Severally, he checked her phone and queried some names and the relationship she
has with her callers.”

Observers believe the fact that the marriage is broken was hurting enough but the decision of Kehinde to announce it on Facebook was heartbreaking
and nasty. Not a few have lampooned him for his action considered to be childish and immature. His post did not give room for reconciliation. It went public and viral as soon
as it was posted.

His “Facebook divorce”, an observer said, confirmed the marriage has been through hell and he needed to pour his broken heart out to the world. At Funke’s home, mum is the word. Members of the family have resolved to keep mute, fold their arms and watch how events unfold. It is such an unhappy ending.

Obama pays tribute as ailing Mandela turns 95

US President Barack Obama paid warm tribute to South African Nelson Mandela for his 95th birthday on Thursday, which the anti-apartheid icon will spend in hospital recovering from a lung infection.

Obama’s message came as Mandela’s youngest daughter Zindzi said her father was making “remarkable” progress, and as admirers around the world prepared to honour the former South African president’s legacy with a wave of charitable acts.

Obama, who visited South Africa last month but was unable to see Mandela because of his illness, was fulsome in his praise of the former statesman, referring to him by his clan name, Madiba.

“Our family was deeply moved by our visit to Madiba’s former cell on Robben Island during our recent trip to South Africa, and we will forever draw strength and inspiration from his extraordinary example of moral courage, kindness, and humility,” Obama said in a statement.

The president called on people to honour the elderly leader by taking part in Nelson Mandela Day on Thursday, when admirers around the world will uphold his legacy with charitable acts.

Biker gangs will clean the streets, volunteers will paint schools and politicians will spend 67 minutes on worthy projects — all to mark Mandela’s 67 years of public service.

“Let us return Madiba’s sacrifices and contributions through our own efforts to build a better society,” said South African President
Jacob Zuma.

Near Pretoria, Zuma himself will try to channel Mandela’s cross-community appeal by delivering government housing to poor whites.

Children in schools around the country will kick off the day by singing “Happy Birthday” to the former prisoner, who also marks 15th anniversary of his marriage to third wife Graca
Machel.

The government will also host a ceremony for the symbolic handing over of Mandela’s new high-tech ID card, which will be received by Zindzi.

The event is laden with symbolism in a country where apartheid was enforced by pass books, which black citizens were forced to carry and which limited movement to certain areas at certain times.

The United Nations declared the Nobel Peace laureate’s birthday Mandela Day in 2010, but for many this year it takes on extra poignancy.

Mandela has spent the last 41 days in a Pretoria hospital in critical but stable condition after being admitted for a recurring lung infection.

Family and friends have said he is now responding to treatment and breathing with the aid of a machine.
Zindzi said her father was making “remarkable” progress in hospital.

“He responds very well… with his eyes, and he nods and sometimes he lifts his hand like to shake your hand,” she told Britain’s Sky News on Wednesday.

Mandela’s successor as president, Thabo Mbeki, has even suggested he might be discharged from hospital soon.

“There was a time that we were all extremely anxious and worried, and we were prepared for the worst,” said Zindzi. “But he continues to amaze us every day.”

– ‘Make the world a better place’ –
Global luminaries, pop stars and ordinary people around the world have joined South Africans in pledging support for Mandela on his birthday.

“I will also be giving my 67 minutes to make the world a better place, one small step at a time,” British business magnate Richard Branson vowed in a recorded message.

In Manila, capital of the Philippines, 50 abandoned street children will get a television studio tour and see performances by local artists.

On Saturday, the Australian city of Melbourne will hold a concert featuring local and African artists, while a music festival later this year in Norway will promote equality in schools.

Born on July 18, 1918, Mandela fought against white rule in South Africa as a young lawyer and was convicted of treason in 1964.

He spent the next 27 years in jail.
It was in part through his willingness to forgive his white jailers that Mandela made his indelible mark on history.

After negotiating an end to apartheid, he became South Africa’s first black president, drawing a line under centuries of colonial and racist suppression.

He then led reconciliation in the deeply divided country.
Mandela’s peace-making spirit has won him worldwide respect.

“Never before in history was one human being so universally acknowledged in his lifetime as the embodiment of magnanimity and reconciliation as Nelson Mandela,” said Archbishop Desmond Tutu, himself a Nobel Peace laureate.

But the sunset of Mandela’s life has been somewhat eclipsed by bitter infighting among
his relatives.

A row over his final resting place has seen three of his children’s graves dug up and their remains moved amid public brawling and legal action among his children and grandchildren.

Jay Z’s Samsung App :- ‘Magna Carta’ App Under Federal Investigation for Privacy Violations.

Jay Z's and smartphone giantb Samsung are under investigation by the feds for alleged privacy violations. Jay Z and Samsung struck a unique $20 million business deal that included purchasing 1 million digital copies of Jay Z’s new album Magna Carta Holy Grail. Samsung galaxy users could download a free copy of the album via a ‘Magna Carta’ app.on their smartphones 3 days before the.album’s official release date. But almost immediately complaints arose over privacy concerns. The app required personal information from users before they could download the albums.

A number of users complained that the app requested the user’s login information for social media accounts. The app then logged into the user’s Twitter account and published tweets promoting Jay Z’s album.

Advocacy group Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) is taking action on these concerns, Rolling Stone reports. The privacy group has reportedly asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the app.

“Samsung failed to disclose material information about the privacy practices of the App, collected data unnecessary to the functioning of the Magna Carta App, deprived users of meaningful choice regarding the collection of their data, interfered with device functionality, and failed to implement reasonable data minimization procedures,” EPIC said in a statement obtained by the Los Angeles Times. Samsung has acknowledged the complaint, releasing a statement reading,

“We are aware of the complaint filed with the FTC and believe.'it is baseless. Samsung takes customer privacy and the protection of personal information very seriously. Any information obtained through the application download process was purely for customer verification purposes, app functionality purposes and for marketing communications, but only if the customer requests to receive those marketing communications.”
