NUPENG Calls Off Strike

Nigeria Union Of Petroleum and Gas Workers (NUPENG) have called off their 3 day strike which began on Monday NUPENG said the strike,
which resulted in traffic lock-down in such major cities as Abuja and Lagos, was necessary to draw attention to issues related to its members' jobs.

NUPENG had announced the
commencement of the strike and
directed all fuel depots to shut down in compliance on Monday. Its president, Achese Igwe, remarked in the statement that the issues that prompted the action included the high level of insecurity in the country, the bad state of the roads in the country, and an increasing level of oil theft in the littoral states.

Mr. Igwe listed other issues as abuse of the expatriate quota by oil firms and non-compliance with stipulated principles regarding recruitment of casual workers in the oil sector. In a statement Tuesday, the union announced the end of the strike.

Speaking to our correspondent this
morning, Tokunbo Korodo, the chairman of the south-west chapter of NUPENG,said the decision to suspend the industrial action followed the intervention of Andrew Yakubu, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as well as the Petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

However, NUPENG warned that its
members would adopt a more serious and prolonged labor action without warning if the government failed to address the concerns raised by the union.
Severe traffic logjams were witnessed in Lagos yesterday as a result of long queues at fuel stations.
The same experience had led to traffic gridlock in Abuja after NUPENG depot outlets stopped loading fuel on Monday.

Nigeria is in the grip of labor unrest, with university lecturers embarking on a strike over the government's failure to implement critical agreements reached several years ago

PHOTO: Gay Pastor Arrested In Edo For Raping With 20-Year-Old Male Church Member

Yesterday, Police in Edo arrested a
pastor identified as Philips Ogbebor, alleged to have had carnal knowledge of a 20-year-old male member of his church (names withheld).

It was revealed that the pastor
threatened to kill his victim if he told anybody about the encounter.
When interview, Ogbebor simply said:

"God will judge, go and talk to others" and kept on mumbling.
The victim narrated his own side of the story;

"I told him I have never done this since I grew up, but he insisted. It was painful and I told him I will not allow it again.

So after the second attempt, I told him I will expose the act. He then
administered an oath on me, saying if I ever told any one, I will die.

"He carried sand and olive oil and poured them on my head, then he wore black garment, saying I will die if I ever leaked the secret.

He killed a black fowl and gave me the liver and gizzard to eat at about 2 a.m., threatening that if I ever said it out, I will die like the fowl.

"But when I realised that it is a sin, I met a man of God to pray for me that God should forgive me and that I am ready to expose it since he forced me.

There after I went to the church and told the congregation about the act. When he heard it, he threatened me by sending his younger brother and members of his gang after me. Since then I have been running."
