PDP Accuse APC Of Blackmail, Falsehood, Insulting President Jonathan

National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party Chief Olisa Metuh has signed a press release by his party. In it, the PDP accuse their political rivals, the All Progressives Congress, of blackmail and falsehood against them, as well as attacking and insulting President Goodluck Jonathan.
We have observed the ill-conceived and wicked offensive deployed by the All Progressives Congress, APC, wherein it has now resorted to attacking the personality of individuals and institutions of government using a section of the media.
In the last few days, the media have been awash with paid write-ups and advertorials by the APC using resources meant for the development of their states to castigate, discredit and ridicule Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, officials and other well-meaning individuals in the country.
It is rather despicable that instead of coming out with tangible explanations that would delink it from the negatives for which Nigerians have rejected it, the APC, now haunted by its ugly shadow, has resorted to yet another diversionary tactics of propaganda, blackmail and falsehood, this time, using paid consultants masquerading as newspaper columnists to attack and insult individuals including the person of President Goodluck Jonathan.
We, however, wish to restate that the PDP is not perturbed by these attacks and they cannot deter us from exposing the APC. We completely stand by our position that the APC is a party of unpatriotic persons whose agenda is to destroy our democracy and the unity we enjoy as a nation.
This wave of attack is clearly part of APC’s “Janjaweed” ideology of destruction and inciting the people against individuals, especially government officials, in furtherance of the plot to undermine the system and balkanize the nation along ethnic and religious lines ahead of the 2015 general elections; an agenda which has already failed.
We are aware that the APC has engaged the services of foreigners who have since been imported into the country to do the hatchet job in collaboration with the paid consultants who pocket as much as N5 million naira for each negative publication.
We are however aware of failed efforts by the APC to compromise credible Nigerian columnists and bloggers, who, for the love of our dear country and fear of God, refused to be made agents of destabilisation.
Nigerians must insist that the APC declares the source of the billions of naira with which it is sponsoring the negative publications. We must ensure that the funds are not coming from the resources meant for the development of their states where the people are already subjected to untold hardship on account of the looting and heavy taxes by the APC.
As an ill-bred party, it is not surprising that the APC has continued to exhibit crass hatred for the President even to the extent of unleashing their thugs to attack innocent citizens for the singular reason of being in possession of posters of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Nigerians are now aware that the APC is a party of hypocrites; of wolves in messianic robes seeking to deceive with the promise of change. We wish to state categorically that the APC as presently constituted has nothing to offer. It is not an alternative to the PDP neither is it an option to Nigerians. Its orchestrated mantra of change remains cosmetic, hypocritical and hollow, unless we now speak of change from democracy to dictatorship.
By every indication, the APC is a rudderless ship heading for crisis and self-destruction. We want Nigerians to note that whilst the leaders of the APC have continued to focus on attacking people and causing confusion, the PDP has focused on sensitising the people as well as strengthening and expanding its support base.
Whilst the APC leaders have relegated their duty of organising their party ahead of elections and remain fixated on mischief, PDP leaders are working hard to organise our members in all the states, local government and wards of the country for a successful outing in 2015.
Nigerians must note that as we march towards the general elections, the APC has no single democratic structure on the ground. It still lacks genuine followership and has no defined presence at the grassroot. On the other hand, the PDP remains the party with the largest number of members and supporters and shall continue to be committed to the national interest for the good of all.
We wish to remind the APC that he who fails to work, works to fail. This is the ultimate fate that awaits them in 2015 and they should have nobody but themselves to blame. Of course, as bad losers, the only plan the APC has perfected is to incite the people and unleash mayhem in furtherance of its greater plot to truncate our democracy by reenacting the ugly experience of December 1983. This agenda has also failed as Nigerians are no longer in the dark regarding who the true enemies of our dear country are.

Tinubu, Sheriff in near fisticuff at APC NEC meetiing

The recent meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, almost turned violent following the threat by a former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff to beat up a national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu.
Mr. Sheriff exploded midway into the meeting, raining abuses on Mr. Tinubu and threatening to slap the former Lagos State governor.
Messrs. Sheriff and Tinubu clashed when the meeting began discussions on the congresses and convention.
It was gathered that the during the discussion, the APC National Chairman, Bisi Akande, who was presiding over the meeting nominated himself and the National Secretary, Tijjani Tumsah to serve as chairman and secretary respectively of the National Convention Committee, NCC, which would also oversee the conduct of the congresses.
Angered by the suggestion, the former Borno State Governor, who is popularly called SAS (Senator Ali Sheriff) or GAS (Governor Ali Sheriff) while in power between 2003 and 2007, grabbed the microphone and expressed his opposition to the choices.
Mr. Sheriff was also said to have made some remarks which suggested that he believed that APC was not yet mature as a party.
He was reportedly cautioned by Mr. Tinubu, who asked him not to speak about the party in a negative manner. The former Lagos State Governor also asked Mr. Sheriff to quit the APC and go elsewhere, if he was not comfortable with the party.
At this point, Mr. Sheriff, who was now holding firmly to the microphone, allegedly began to insult Mr. Tinubu, asking him if he owned the party.
But for the intervention of the some party leaders attending the meeting, including a former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari and a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, the former Borno Governor, almost made real his threat, sources at the meeting told journalist.
The APC NEC meeting, which was held at the party’s headquarters in the Wuse 2 District of Abuja, was convened last Monday to discuss some pressing issues in the party, including the impending inaugural ward, local government and state congresses as well as a national convention.
At the end of the meeting, the APC NEC fixed May 24 for its first national convention. It also fixed April 5 for the ward congresses while the local government and state congresses will hold April 12 and 23 respectively.

Jonathan blames governors for insecurity

President Goodluck Jonathan has taken a swipe at governors of states plagued with insecurity in the North East part of the country accusing them of failing in their duties.
Apparently referring to Governor Kashim  Shettima of Borno State and Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State, Jonathan at  the  North East Zonal Rally of the PDP in Bauchi on Saturday,  Jonathan said it was wrong for the governors to blame the federal governor for the situation in the states.
He however noted that the Federal Government will not rest on its oars in bringing an end to the insurgency in the region.
“It is shameful for a governor who has stayed in power in his state for up to six years or more to come to me and talk about bad leadership when you have youths in your state that more than half have not attended primary and you are doing nothing about it.
“State Governors should be ashamed when our children do not go to primary and secondary schools and they decided to carry arms. We had insecurity challenges in Bayelsa when I was deputy governor and later governor   and we handled them. It is not the duty of FG to send children to Primary and Secondary schools but it is the constitutional right of the Federal Government to make sure children attend tertiary institutions which we have done, “Jonathan said.
The President said the situation in the North East is sad but assured that peace will be restored in the affected states soon.
Speaking on the fortunes of the PDP come 2015, the President boasted that his party will surely reclaim Adamawa, retain Taraba and take over Borno and Yobe States.
He noted that those claiming to be strong opposition in Adamawa state are only “leaving with one vote”.
Other Speakers who spoke at the zonal rally acknowledged the insecurity in the region.
The National Chairman of the PDP Ahmadu Adamu Muazu called on the aspirants in the party to go back to their villages and solicit for their mandate, stressing that there is no God Father in PDP today. Only the God of Adam and Eve that can give you power.

Nollywood Is not a dumping ground for prostitutes – Nollywood star Amanda Ebeye

Fast-rising Nollywood actress Amanda Ebeye, in a recent interview pens up about her life, career and other interesting topics.
She said she had always wanted to act as a child and she began acting in 2008 and so far it's been challenging.
On why she quit Clinic matters she replied:
"Let’s say it was on financial grounds. The money wasn’t great at that time. But I don’t know of now."
On whether she slept her way to the top?
I can say that over and over again. I did not sell my body. Anybody who says I did that should come out and say it. It’s a wrong mentality that actresses sell their bodies for fame. I know so many people who didn’t do that. We still have decent actors-the industry is not a dumping ground for prostitutes.
Are there roles you won’t accept?
I can play all roles. But recently, I’ve started rejecting some kind of sexual roles because I think I’m growing older and need to start thinking of what I’m impacting on the viewers, especially the children.
But you were once quoted to have said that you can play a nude role for N7.5 billion naira?
I was asked if I could act nude and I said no. The interviewer then said: “What if you are being paid 50 million dollars?” and I said yes. But who is going to pay such money for any actress to go nude? Nobody can do that. It’s impossible. That statement means I cannot! The truth is that Nigerians are very hypocritical. It was just a joke and lots of people took it very serious.
On why she is still single?
She said she is not ready for marriage at the moment, adding that she is not searching. "When it’s God’s time, my kind of man will surface," she said.

New Twist Over Missing Malaysian Plane Following New ‘Credible Lead’

The search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 shifted to another section of the southern Indian Ocean on Friday after new analysis by investigators indicated that the aircraft was traveling faster than previously thought.
The new lead comes from analysis of radar data between the South China Sea and the Strait of Malacca before radar contact was lost, AMSA said.
Those data show that the aircraft traveled at a higher speed than investigators thought, therefore used more fuel and possibly traveled less far south, according to the Australians.
The new search area is 680 miles northeast of where planes and ships have been scouring the waters for any sign of the plane.
It is also four times as large as where the search team was looking Thursday, expanding the area being covered from 48,500 square miles to 198,200 square miles, according to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
Australian officials said the new lead was based on continued analysis of information pieced together from radar and satellite data, as observers try to find the plane, which had 239 people on board when it strayed far from its intended path to Beijing on March 8.

* Source: Australian Maritime Safety Authority - The green crosshatched rectangle indicates the new search area. The prior search areas are in gray below.
The Australian-led search has spent several days trying to track down debris picked up by various satellites, which have offered the strongest leads in the hunt for the plane. But so far, observers on low-flying planes and on ships have come up short.
On Monday, a Thai satellite spotted at least 300 floating objects in the southern Indian Ocean, where authorities say the plane went down almost three weeks ago, a Thai official said Thursday.
The images were taken by the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency, a Thai space research agency, and show objects more than
1,600 miles southwest of Perth, Australia, said Anond Snidvongs, executive director of the agency.
“I wouldn’t say the debris is from the Malaysia Airlines flight,” Anond said by telephone from Bangkok, adding that analysts could not be certain. “We just spotted a lot of floating objects.”
He said the items were as small as 6 1/2 feet and as long as 52 1/2 feet. They were seen about 124 miles from where French satellites detected a group of more than
100 objects earlier in the week.
The effort to physically locate debris from the aircraft was hampered Thursday as planes set out in the morning, only to turn back a few hours later because of weather conditions. Five ships continued scouring the section of the southern Indian Ocean where authorities think the flight ended. On Friday morning, the search resumed again with 10 aircraft.

Deadly Immigration Recruitment Planners Made N710 Million But Released Only N45 Million

Senators today heard that recruitment consultant for deadly Immigration Service screening, Drexel Limited released only N45 million for the exercise despite making at least N710 million from poor applicants.
Minister of Interior, Patrick Abba Moro, and Comptroller General of Immigration, David Parradang have been asked to resign by different public stakeholders for how they handled the sad event where 16 people had lost their lives at the screening due to inadequate planning of the exercise on March 15.
The Secretary of the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services board, S. D. Tapgun, told the committee that about 710,000 people applied for the test according to the numbers provided by the consultant, Drexel Limited.

Tapgun also revealed that funding was a major issue for the exercise, and they had estimated it will cost around N201 million but Drexel limited produced only N45 million despite making N710 million.
Mr Tapgun said that the reason Mr. Moro rejected suggestions that the exercise be staggered and conducted separately based on cadres was due to funding.

Lawmakers later then insinuated that the ministry had lost control over a firm it claimed to have hired. Meanwhile Minister Moro also attended todays hearing.

The Comptroller-General, Mr. Parradang meanwhile said he didn't know anything regarding the planning for the exercise and said his advices where rejected.

Mr. Parradang said he was shocked when the planners decided to take over the recruitment of both the senior and junior cadre unlike the old methods where the supervising board takes charge of this recruitment.

He said: The minister, Mr. Moro, is the chairman of the board. “For all my years in the service, no one had ever taken away from us the right to recruit the Cadre B officials.
And that was why I protested very vehemently,” Mr. Parradang said

Senate Confirms Emefiele's Appointment As New CBN Governor

Senate Confirms Emefiele's Appointment As New CBN Governor
The Senate has confirmed today the appointment of the new Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Photo: Godwin Emefiele appointed CBN governor
Emefiele will replace Lamido Sanusi, who was suspended by President Goodluck Jonathan on charges of “financial recklessness and misconduct”, while some are sure the case was politicized.
The appointment was approved unanimously, after which the Senate president David Mark said:
"Emefiele will ensure the prerequisite responsibilities of the central bank governor without fear or favour."
It would be recalled that Sanusi was suspended soon after he had accused the state-owned oil company of corruption, which statement contained in the leaked letter.
His suspension came just several months before the legal end of his 5-year-term (June).
Zenith Bank boss Emefiele's emergence as a candidate became surprising for the market watchers who said he was a low-profile, conservative figure who was unlikely to rock the boat.

ACN Says Delta State Government Spent N9 Billion Allocation In Three Days

In January 2013, government of Delta State spent the Excess Crude allocation - a total of almost nine and a half billion naira, N9,433,445,759.13 - in less than three days in a totally "frivolous" and "scandalous" manner. The Anti-Corruption Network have expressed alarm over the "unparalleled" corrupution and greed for money of the lawmakers.
In less than a week, Delta State Government spent a total of N9,424,933,907.72, leaving a balance of only N8,511,851.41.
The ACN focused on Delta State as part of their efforts to "beam their searchlight" on various states of Nigeria. According to the official statement issued on March 25 by Executive Secretary Dino Melaye, the money was spent in such a manner which raises some questions, such as:
  • Why N279,020,000 was spent on gifts alone?
  • Had November street maintenance, October overhead, several GHP overheads, construction of Trans-Warri-Ode-Itsekiri Bridge and Access road not been already included in the 2012 budget?
  • Why the paragraph Award to Members of Delta State Contingent, Eko 2012 Games, Lagos, is repeated twice with different amount?
  • What is a "scandalous" title "Various Government House payments," N216,000,000.00?
Also, Mr. Melaye says in the statement, the document included several controversial points, such as:
  • Estacode (funds intended to cover traveling costs) to Vienna, Austria and Los Angeles, N31,465,491.00.
  • Hosting of Senior Course 35 participants of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jabi at N37,258,500.00.
  • Two times Assistance to hosting of National Health Summit cost put at N45,000,000.00 and N35,000,000.00 respectively, while the proper hosting of same event cost N40,504,000.00.
  • Another tittle GHP overhead (O/H) different from the earlier ones with no month in reference put at N558, 000.000.00 and O/H put at N100,000,000.
  • Some "funny" tittles such as printed release warrants (H) (K) and (M) put at the cost of N939,559,371.96, and N337,417,202.61 and N444,165,589.00 respectively. Meanwhile, a different printed release warrant which cost is put at N1,988,308,165.58.
Mr. Melaye condemns the "desperation" to consume the said N9 billion, describing it as "unparalleled" in the history of corruption. He decries that the deed was done with no tangible social amenity or infrastructure in mind. He said a proper petition to all Anti-graft Agencies would be forwarded this week, adding that corruption in all states must stop and promising to conduct similar checks in every Nigerian state.
