MASS DEFECTION: PDP Lost At Least 200 Members to APC in Osun

PDP Lost At Least 200 Members to APC in OsunAbout 200 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State have switched to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifon, Orolu Local Government Area of the state, barely few months to the governorship election.
APC chieftains in the State, led by the Acting Chairman, Elder Adelowo Adebiyi, welcomed the new members at the APC Secretariat in the capital city of Osun State, Osogbo, on January 22, 2014, Wednesday.
The APC leader in the state warned the new members to abide by the rules and regulations of the party and advised them to be loyal and ready to work for the party so as to win elections ahead in the state beyond reasonable doubt.
Prince Adekunle Benson, the APC State Deputy Treasurer, who introduced the defectors, said that the defectors meant well as elections in the state are forthcoming, which means they are very ready to work for the party development and victory.
He also promised them that nobody will be marginalised because “we are one in the progressive camp”, adding that their joining is a signal that “the opposition PDP is totally dead in entire Oroluland and even in the state”.
However, the Director of Media and Strategy for Osun PDP, Prince DIran Odeyemi, dismissed the claim and insisted that PDP is intact in the state and ready for the forthcoming governorship election.

Mu'azu Wants Amaechi, Others to Come Back, Seeks Lamido's Support

Mu'azu Wants Amaechi, Others to Come Back, Seeks Lamido's Support

Mu'azu Wants Amaechi, Others to Come Back, Seeks Lamido's SupportThe newly-appointed National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, wants the five governors and other party chieftains who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to come back to the ruling party.
Adamu Mu’azu made this appeal at the party secretariat in Abuja on January 22, 2014, Wednesday.
He admitted that the immediate past leadership of the party offended many of the defectors through its actions and inactions, promising that their grievances would be addressed by the new leadership.
The Chairman hinted that his first task would be to set up a genuine reconciliation committee to address the grievances of members across the nation, observing that those that defected could not have done so just for the fond of it.
“We are going to look at the various events and actions that were taken in the recent past. Whatever injustice done to members would be corrected. We will apologise to those the party offended,” he said.
Adamu Mu’azu also seek support of the Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, who paid him a courtesy visit.
He wanted Lamido to help reach out to the five governors before the envisaged reconciliation committee comes on stream, noting that being a member of the “rebel” G-7 Governors, Lamido should be able to influence the five governors.
Mu’azu pleaded with the five governors and other chieftains that left the party to reflect on what they had benefitted under the platform of the party, assuring that the PDP would not foist a culture of impunity under his watch.
Lamido, who gave his briefed the journalists before the meeting, was unflattering in his comments on the leadership of the PDP under Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, saying Tukur’s era was divisive and vindictive.
“I hold nothing against Alhaji Tukur because I respect him as my elder. But one cannot be happy seeing party members being suspended and chased away by the leadership.
“The PDP failed under the last leadership. If Governors and National Assembly members were leaving and you said you were not worried, then you should know that something is wrong with you.
“Many of our members were unjustly insulted, humiliated and abandoned by the immediate past leadership of the party. The G-7 Governors were made to feel unwanted, pained and traumatized,” he said.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Honour Sirawoo, Senator Abe (Rivers South-East Senatorial District) lamented that instead of implementing the UNEP report on Ogoniland, the Federal Government choose to arm youths with guns worth millions to kill fellow human beings.
He expressed gratitude to friends, well-meaning individual Nigerians and groups for their support following his ordeal, and thanked them for their prayers, phone calls, solidarity messages and support, praying to God for their protection in these dangerous times.
Having faced violence before and emerged victorious, he called for forgiveness as well as focus on set goals, stressing that the law as impossible as it may look today, will one day take its course.
“Every gun has a life span of over a hundred years, our politics may change,” he said. “As today’s friends become opponents tomorrow, the guns will also change hands; but they will still remain lethal, even against their present owners.”
Abe, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) maintained that rather than encourage violence in order to gain relevance in politics, he will continue to arm his supporters, just like his children, with school fees, laptops, prayers and the fear of God.
