Popular Nollywood actress
Monalisa Chinda paid a charity visit to the Kirikiri Prison, Apapa, Lagos on September 15, 2013, Sunday. The visit lasted for several
hours.
The Nollywood star donated various
items including food stuff, clothes,
underwear, toiletries, perfume bottles and sanitary provisions, through her Arise Monalisa Foundation.
The prison inmates were incredibly
happy to receive her, and the star did not disappoint them, as she spent enough time for interacting with them.
"Though we may not be in control of what happens to us in life, we are absolutely responsible for our reactions to what happens to us. And it is our reaction that ultimately determines the results and quality of our lives.
On getting here today, I was told some inmates were recently released by strange interventions, so this can't be the end for you," Monalisa encouraged the audience.
As some prisoners wept, Monalisa
further said "I want you to know that there is more to your life than your present state and, no matter what anyone has said to you, there is hope for you."
According to star's aide, the inmates were not allowed to be photographed, but they had a great time bonding with
the actress.
It would be noted that during the last week, which also marked her birthday, Monalisa also visited the Patrick Speech & Languages School in Lagos which cares for autistic children and made donations
there.
