Tukur’s Resignation: PDP Will Lose Taraba, Adamawa To Opposition Party – Ex-Chairman

Tukur-ResignThe immediate past state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State, Alhaji Abdulmumini Vaki, has declared that the PDP will lose the state to an opposition party in 2015.
Vaki, who was Taraba PDP Chairman for more than a decade, made this known yesterday in Jalingo, the state capital while reacting to Thursday’s removal of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as national chairman of PDP.
According to Vaki, the PDP would lose to opposition party in the state because at present, it lacks the leadership to win the polls.
He added that for a party to win major positions in a state, the party must have very effective officials and acceptable leadership that has a larger followership.
“The general confusion in PDP is a good development for the opposition, an indication that PDP is going to lose Taraba and its neighbouring Adamawa State”, he said.
He added that the ruling party has not only been lull in activities but lacks a credible leadership that can ensure victory in next year’s polls.
He said: “For a party to win major positions in a state, that party must have very effective officials in place and an acceptable leadership that has a larger population of supporters.
“The PDP should forget (wining) the governorship election and major political positions in Taraba. It lacks the leadership that can pilot its affairs here”, he said.
Vaki noted that the situation would deteriorate if Governor Danbaba Suntai was not allowed to resume duty immediately.
He said: “As far as the politics of Taraba State is concerned, the Acting Governor Alhaji Garba Umar and his team are not popular. They cannot deliver the state for PDP as regards the presidential, governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly elections.
“The PDP in the state is a divided house in confusion. It has no direction. Party officials are not together. The State Assembly members are not legislating as one family. The special advisers are in confusion over their positions. The commissioners are counting days as they don’t know what would be their fate if Governor Danbaba Suntai finally takes charge.
“That is not all. Majority of the council chairmen are not working as a team with the Acting Governor because of the financial difficulties they are facing to run the day to day activities and programmes of their respective local governments, not to talk of executing projects”.
Vaki said, as a member and ex-officio of the party, he is raising the alarm now because he has seen the looming danger ahead.
“It is unfortunate and disturbing that what we were able to put in place during the Jolly Nyame administration and in the first tenure of the Suntai administration have been destroyed by some greedy politicians now parading themselves as key players.
“What happened in the state the day Suntai returned is a clear indication that Taraba people are not happy with what is happening in the state since the governor had the plane crash.
“Except Suntai resumes immediately, settles down and restructures the whole mess, the PDP is bound to lose Taraba State to another party.
“Without Suntai who is the elected leader, the PDP in Taraba is like a truckload of passengers without a driver”.
