| Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako |
The Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, said he would not return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
Gov. Nyako confirmed his stance while briefing the newsmen at Yola International Airport, Adamawa, on January 17, 2014, Friday.
“The resignation of Bamanga Tukur is not a condition of my return to PDP.
“Some of my reasons for not returning are that the party has become an empire of impunity and lawlessness,” he said.
He said his decision to team up with the All Progressives Congress (APC) was not just for personal interest, but in the interest of the country and democracy.
It would be noted that both Nyako and Bamanga Tukur are from Adamawa State. The duo had a bruising battle over Tukur’s plans to make his son the next governor of the state, in succession of Nyako.
Gov. Nyako is the second defected PDP governor, who openly confirmed no return policy. On Thursday, Governor Aliyu Wammako of Sokoto state also ruled out rejoining the PDP that he left to join the opposition APC.
