PDP blames APC for Nyanya bomb attack, releases statement

And now we are playing blame
games. In statement signed this
afternoon by PDP National
Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa
Metuh, the party condemned
today's Nyanya bombing
describing it as barbaric and
extremely wicked and maintaining
that it was politically motivated.
They called APC out! So wait,
politicians are playing games with
people's lives? Read statement
below...

"The PDP weeps. We are indeed
grief-stricken. Our hearts go out
to the bereaved, especially those
who have been orphaned and
widowed and those now deprived
of their bread winners by this evil
act. We share in their pain, their
anguish and their loss and pray
that those behind their grief must
not escape justice,” the party said.

“We stand by our earlier
statements that these attacks on
our people are politically
motivated by unpatriotic persons,
especially those in the APC, who
have been making utterances and
comments, promoting violence
and blood-letting as a means of
achieving political control."

Continue...

“Nigerians are also aware of
utterances by certain APC
governors which have been aimed
at undermining our security forces
and emboldening insurgents
against the people.

“Those who have been promoting
violence through their utterances
can now see the monster they
have created. They can now see
the end product of their
comments; a country flowing daily
with the blood of the innocent.
The question is; how do they feel
when they see the mangled and
blood-soaked bodies of their
victims? How do they feel when
they hear the voices of the dying
and the injured?

“Of course they feel nothing. Their
hearts have been hardened and
they are embittered by the fact
that they have been rejected by
the people. They are bitter
because the people have chosen
to rally round the government
they love and voted for; but must
they chose the path of violence
and bloodletting as a response to
the wishes and aspiration of the
people.

Urging all well meaning Nigerians
to stand up and join President
Goodluck Jonathan in his untiring
efforts to check terrorism in the
country, the PDP caution those
fueling the attacks to retrace their
steps, rid themselves of bitterness
and desperation and seek
forgiveness from God.

The party, in solidarity with the
people also shelved all official
engagements while praying God to
grant the bereaved the fortitude
to bear the loss.

2015: El-Rufai Clears The Air On APC's Principles For Granting The Presidential Ticket

A former Minister of the FCT Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has responded to those speculating on 2015 presidential ticket by the opposition force # 1, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In his statement published via social media, El-Rufai listed three significant points:
(1) APC will present an integrity-competence ticket not religion. Politics and governance are not to be mixed or dictated to by any religion.
(2) The APC will present to Nigerians the best persons with the integrity, capacity and competence to create jobs, fight corruption and rebuild our nation without discrimination. How these persons worship the Almighty God is private to them and dies not matter to discerning Nigerians particularly young people that suffer most from bad governance, unemployment and the Jonathanian culture of impunity.
(3) The PDP that has no record to show other than escalation in corruption, grand larceny, trillions missing, private jets and deaths of innocent people. The PDP's only "winning strategy" is built around promoting and financing regional and religious division, and using the proceeds of corruption to buy the military, police and INEC officials rig the next elections.
“They will be defeated no matter what they think because Nigerians are wiser and will not be taken for a ride any longer,” the message concluded.
It would be recalled that APC Chieftain Femi Fani-Kayode warned the party against Muslim/Muslim ticket, prophesised that it would suffer a bitter defeat, if goes for this option.

APC Appeals Judgment Against 37 Defected Lawmakers

A notice of appeal was filed by lawyer Mahmud Magaji (SAN) on behalf of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, and Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha.
On Monday, Justice Adeniyi Ademola had in his judgment in the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/4/14, held that there was no division in the Peoples Democratic Party to qualify the legislators to defect and continue to retain their seats in line with the provisions of section 68 (1) (g) of the 1999 Constitution.
Section 68 (1) (g) allows for defection of members of the National Assembly in situations where there is division in political parties.
Challenging the judgment, the appellants argued that the decision of the Federal High Court  was "perverse" and was not supported by the reliefs sought by the plaintiff, PDP.
They said that the trial judge "erred in law when he granted reliefs not sought by the plaintiff", adding that the judgment "is against the weight of evidence".
According to the appellants, Justice Ademola wrongly assumed jurisdiction over the suit, which they insisted was an internal affair of the House of Representatives.
The lawmakers also said that the PDP lacked the locus standi to institute the case because it was not predicated on any recognised legal interest
The appellants also said that Justice Ademola made a mistake when he granted the reliefs sought by the plaintiff and went further to hold that the respondents ought to have resigned their seats as members of the House of Representatives.
Furthermore, the appellants argued that the judge was wrong when he held that the reliefs sought by PDP in the suit were justiciable and proceeded to grant the reliefs sought without considering the provision of section 30 of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act Cap L12 Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
This section provides that "neither the President nor the Speaker as the case may be, of a legislative house shall be subjected to the jurisdiction of any court in respect of the exercise of any power conferred on or vested in him by or under this Act or the standing orders of the Constitution."

4 Boko Haram Suicide Bombers Killed, Many Feared Dead As Multiple Explosions Shake Maidugur

Borno State - Defence Headquarters in Abuja have issued the statement saying four suspected suicide bombers were killed in separate explosions while trying to attack a NNPC facility along Maiduguri-Damboa federal highway.
According to the statement signed by Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, three of the four explosives-laden vehicles were demobilized by soldiers' gunfire at a major checkpoint in Mulai, a community along the Damboa-Biu road. Five soldiers have been reported injured.
Speaking to Agence France-Presse, Borno State police spokesman Gideon Jibrin reported that one car exploded at 7:50 a.m., killing 3 civilians. Ten minutes later, a bomb hit a police vehicle, killing 5 officers and 3 another persons who are yet to be determined either as civilians or Boko Haram insurgents.
Sources at the scene say that the suicide bombers, driving four Volkswagen golf cars laden with improvised explosive devices rammed into two military patrol vehicles. Others indicate the attackers were trying to speed past the checkpoint to set off the blasts at the petrol station, which was backed up with vehicles because of fuel shortages across Nigeria.
Immediately after the blast, 7 Division men of Nigerian Army, mobile policemen and vigilante youths mobilized to the scene and cordoned off the area to prevent any further attacks. Residents of Molai and Damboa road are fleeing their homes.
It would be recalled that an emergency rule has been imposed onto the Northern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe in May, 2013. Recently, the Nigerian military reclaimed the Maiduguri Giwa Barracks, capturing and killing several members of the Boko Haram sect insurgents.

2015 Presidential Election: Jonathan Steps Down For David Mark

Few months before the 2015 Presidential election hold next year, it has been revealed that President Goodluck Jonathan has decided to hand over the mantle of leadership to Senate President, David Mark.
photo
 * Senate President David Mark tipped to take over from President Jonathan
According to a report, Jonathan's decision to back out of the race is unconnected to the ongoing activities in some parts of the country.
A dependable source within the PDP caucus informed that the president was forced to accept the decision because some persons had vowed to make his government ungovernable if he returns in 2015.
The source also said, “this decision came after several meetings and consultations with party leaders. It is obvious some people don’t want Jonathan. The ongoing activities in some parts of the country tell it all and the only option left is for him to pull out of the race.”
Asked if the incumbent president would be given any federal appointment, the source said the president has agreed to return to his Otueke home, from where he will go back to classroom.
A media aide to the President, while debunking the news, said there was no element of truth in it.
